Dave Gibian of Cleveland's All Dinosaurs took a few moments to answer some prompts about the band and their music. Catch All Dinosaurs live (and for free, with Two Hand Fools and Foam Castles) at Flask on Wednesday, August 24th. Check out their music HERE.
All Dinosaurs is made up of...Bo Bowersmith (guitar, vocals), Dave Gibian (guitar, vocals), Gheramy Demery (bass, vocals), Joe Willis (drums, backing vocals). We've all been playing in different bands of drastically different styles for the past ten years in Cleveland. We came together about two years ago and have released our own full length record on CD and vinyl and have been touring relentlessly.
The name All Dinosaurs...came after many months of trying to decide on a band name. Multiple nights were spent just sitting around trying to find something that stuck. We figured that all dinosaur names make cool band names, and that there really wasn't such thing as a lame s@#$ty dinosaur. We let it soak for a few days and decided to go with it.
I'm not sure exactly what modern rock and roll is...but I'm certain that we are not it. The punk kids think we're metal and the metal kids all think we're punk. We figure that we're a loud, fast, intense and thrashy combination of all of the things we love about rock and roll. So far we have yet to play in front of someone that has been able to tell us who or what we sound like. Truthfully this band has ended up far more original and unique sounding than we might have expected when first getting it started. We do our god damnedest to rage as hard as we can, every single show we play.
As far as Cleveland rocking...we have yet to find a place we like better. That's not to say that we don't love other places a bunch. Cleveland is home, and it is terribly underrated. There doesn't really seem to be a place quite like it anywhere. The people are the best part. Don't be a jerk and you won't get treated like a jerk. People there care a great deal about the city and are always working to improve it. Plus we don't care what anyone says, it's the f@#$ing rock and roll capitol of the whole goddamn world!
We're certain Portland rocks because...it's not the Midwest, and from what we hear pirates hang out there. Cleveland's mentality fits more with the east coast than the Midwest. We like that. Also I have to say, the mere fact that we were reached out to before playing there says a lot about how Portland feels about its music and art. It shows that music is taken seriously there and adds motivation for us to make damn sure that we show up proper. Plus my mom wants me to eat some lobster, so I'm into that.
There are a million reasons why music matters...It's different for everyone, and if you have half a brain then you've considered why it matters to you.
Our music matters to us because...it's the kind of band we've always wanted to be a part of, and it's with the type of people we've always wanted to do this with. We take what we do very seriously and spend a lot of time making sure we're writing the best songs that we can. We haven't been classified yet, and to be original in this day and age without trying way too hard to be different and weird is something to pay attention to. Plus we like to rage, hard.
I'd like to add that...we'll be coming through Portland as part of a three week tour with our good friends from Cleveland called Two Hand Fools. These guys are legit and really channel some folky spirits with there anthem-y punk. They are some of the best musicians we've had the pleasure to play with and even cooler people. Not mentioning them when talking about why Cleveland rocks would be a crime.
