...cancer? This is not a simple question to answer! There are so many different diseases that cause so much sadness in the world. I immediately thought of AIDS and then I got to thinking how in a lot of cases, that is avoidable by certain behaviors (obviously there are exceptions such as children being born with it, blood transfusions, etc.). Next thought was cancer. Sure, there are certain types of cancer's caused by smoking, sun, and other things, but most cancers are not caused by any behavior, they just occur naturally. I think that everyone has probably known someone, or known of someone who had cancer.
My question initially is too open ended. I mean, if I could cure a whole type of disease it would be cancers, but what if I could only cure one type of cancer? Maybe then I would have to think about heart disease, which is the number one cause of death in the United States. Again though, much of that comes from choices that people make more than anything else.
Those diseases that you are born with or acquire over time, that you have no choice in the matter might be the ones I would pick. Sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, those are diseases that really change how people have to live and have nothing to do with how they had been living.
Wow, that's a tough question.
