About a month ago I wrote a little bit about having received a $250 speeding ticket for going 81 in a 65. I paid it today and although it was complete nonsense that I got it in the first place, there is something even more absurd that I noticed. When you are issued a ticket in New Hampshire you are given a listing of the different fees associated with different motor vehicle violations. I don't know who the simpleton is who decided these amounts but it is out of control.
If you fail to display your license plate, even if you have it, you can receive a ticket of $150. If you drive on the sidewalk though you will receive a ticket of $115.20. Makes sense right?
If your vehicle is unregistered you get a fine of $100, if your child is not properly belted in you receive a ticket of $50.
If you litter you will be given a ticket of $288. If you fail to report an injury you give to a dog (like killing them) you will be ticketed for $57.60.
My ticket was $250 instead of $100 because the liar of a police officer said I was one mile over what I actually was (unless of course my cruise control is incorrect - I have more faith in a piece of machinery...). I just can't believe that violations involving the lives of humans and animals are considered less important than others by the State of New Hampshire. I have a simplified idea for the state motto; Die.
